Well, iBall did overreact a bit, however as a longtime user of Nokia smartphones it seems like that recently they've been following the model of releasing firmware when they feel like it's ready. There have been a bit more fiascos with Nokia than most people appreciate.

When a new variant is involved, an OS release (unique or shared by siblings) may have a tendency to come at or near the variant launch. Only makes sense. The goal, then, is to do one's best to ensure the release is solid by that deadline. Sometimes it happens. Sometimes it doesn't. But the OS can't slip by much-- it's gotta be on the N810, at a minimum, just prior to product availability.

We all know it's already Frozen, it would have to be the make the deadline that's upcoming. Who would jump to such a high assumption to say it's not finished? Finished is a very subjective term. It's well past Alpha and frozen and onto final staging, as a matter of fact, I would assume at this point, it's gone past internal testing. It is due to be out soon, and they need to start pumping them out for release, or clearly run out of stock . If it wasn't staged and assumed safe enough for release by now they wouldn't be showcasing them as hard as they are right now.

True to a point. Again, though, Nokia flashes firmware RIGHT at the time of packing, and products leave the factory that day or soon after. Flashed products do not stay in internal inventory long at all. So firmware, even for an announced and upcoming product, can still be massaged at this stage in the game.
