My must-haves (in order of musthaviness):
FBreader
Gnumeric
Abiword (even in its current, crippled state)
Mplayer
Kilikali
Simple Launcher
Minimo
What I desperately want:
OpenEinstein, including working Relativity
PenOffice and/or CalliGrapher
An easy database (even flatfile will do)
a good wordprocessor (I really, really liked Psion's Word, with its nifty fit-to-screen or fit-to-page display options)
a non-disappearing Bluetooth icon
a system upgrade that, for a change, fixes more things than it breaks

My list of important apps includes things like GPE (suite), Abiword, Gnumeric and SDict. Yeah, the multimedia apps are all there too, but they don't get used nearly as much as the "office"-type and PIM apps.

How do you find availability of dictionaries in the .dic format, are there any more apart from those on the SDictionary site?

Presumably these files are also read by SDict?

OpenVPN - essential to check your email from an open access point without sending your user name and password in unencrypted form for anyone to sniff - unless of course you use secure email like gmail
VNC Viewer - use with OpenVPN to access your home computer securely while on the move - like a free GoToMyPC!
gPodder - keep up with the latest from Steve and Leo while on the move
Metasploit - lazy security check with db_autopwn
IPhome - your allocated local IP address at a glance
Airodump-ng - see what hidden BSSIDs are out there and the MAC addresses of anyone connecting
Autoscan - who else is connected? Prettier than nmap
netcat - the almighty
