I managed around 750MB in a month due to moving house and using phone as broadband. Vodafone didn't complain (as far as I know) at all.

When they introduced the 500Mb tariff they sent all users a txt stating that data was now "unlimited" .. I was working away from home, took them at their word, thought unlimited meant unlimited and watched an awful lot of video from my Slingplayer on my N95 (I dream of Slingplayer on the N900.. but that's another thread) anyway, that month I racked up 5Gb of data..

Then I read the small print, realised the limit wasn't "un" it was 500Mb.. so I called voda, the first customer rep I spoke to obviously wasn't too clever but did tell me they charged per Meg for very Meg over 500 and i would be getting a bill for a couple of grand.. cue cold sweat..

I called again, and the next rep was more knowledgeable and said that if you go over now & then they do nothing, they only charge if you make a habit of it.. sure enough I wasn't charged.

But I watch data like a paranoid hawk now.. and don't forget they count up AND downstream data, not just downloads..

Hmmmm - not really in UK - but in my case I got a 3G "soft limit" (soft as in technically it is completely unlimited but they reserve the right to throttle me if I go above 3G - not that they would I reckon) and that is actually pretty close to my use. Around 3G/month.

Nothing to worry about here guys. All networks have a 'limit', but its only to act as a guide and a deterent against massive streaming/ modem usage/ p2p stuff.

I regularly go over my orange 500mb, by a few gigs normally, and never had a call. My collegue on voda and tmob absolutely hammers his, using rapidshare ect, and again, no issues.

Infact, in 4 years of CPW, I have never had a customer come in with charges for extra usage, other then usb dongles, which DO charge if you go over (tmob aside)

In this smart phone and facebook era, to cap and charge customers for net overuse would be network suicide, as so many hammer iphones, android and winmo devices. Dont worry about it. The worst that could happen for constant crazy overuse is a text/letter warning that they may have to throttle the speed if you don't calm down on it. Never seen it happen, so I really wouldn't worry about it.
