This is weird. I'm reading the manual, and it says helpfully that if a storage card is corrupted you need to reformat it. However, nowhere in the manual does it say HOW to format an SD Card using the n900.

Nowhere.

So, other then dropping into the shell, is there a way to format an SD Card in the device? Nothing jumps out at me after poking around for a while with a functioning 1GB card inserted and recognized by the n900.

LOL... funny! Ok, so I found it, and it's not mentioned in the user manual at all.

Go to File Manager, and you'll see your card
Press and HOLD the card until a menu pops up... last choice is format.

Might be a good idea to put that in the manual
