Hey, i got my hands on a N9 which fails to boot. I was intending to use it for spare parts, but was wondering if there was a way i could actually get this thing functioning again?

When I plug the N9 in the charger, the notification led does light up. However, I've tried plugging it in my computer and flashing, but the flasher doesn't recognize it (suitable USB interface not found).

If I try normally booting the N9, nothing happens.
But, when I try to power it on while it's plugged in the charger, it vibrates briefly af it it was booting, and the notification led starts blinking in a 2 second interval. Still, the screen stays black.

Anyone got ideas?

Are you using windows or linux ?

Id you are using linux, an output from dmesg will be helpfull in wether your computer actually finds the device, and provide more useful information on debugging this.
If you are using windows, I suggest using a Live-CD with a linux distibution, and try to attach the N9 using that booted up. Then, get the dmesg output to post here.

It sounds like a drained battery, so, again, a linuxdistro is helpfull, connect the N9, while powered off (long press power), use flasher to put power on the battery (flasher -i, and wait for the battery to charge)

Other things to try: another USB cable have sometimes caused issues when using a not nokia USB cabler, or USB cable is defect.
If you have a friend, with Linux, also try on his (M/K) computer.

You can also stick an adapter into the serial port of the device and see what messages it spits out in the boot

This have happened to another user previously. I think you need to change the USB cable. This was the issue in that users situation.

This USB cable worked just fine with my working N9, though.

I tried with USB cable that came with N900, dmesg doesn't seem to change:

@salamisami
Are you starting flasher, before attaching the N9 ?
If not, please do so (flasher -i)

Also, make sure you are using flasher version 3.12 (the harmattan flasher)
It is also possible, besides the USB cable, that either the USB port on the PC is defect, or the USB port on the N9 itself.
Try more cables, another USB port, another PC.
