Pardon me, I haven't known Gary Birkett very well, but looking at the few posts above mine, and his wonderful presentation, I can see that he is a one essential jewel in the life of Maemo, and this just proves a shattering loss to the whole Maemo community.

RIP and wishes to all of his loved ones.

I am developing the liqbase graphics library and sketching program.
My aim is to build applications which make this nokia shine!

Fullscreen tearfree rendering with kinetic scrolling and a whole host of other stuff has been built so far.

This is very sad news indeed.

Gary was such a bundle of energy. All those ideas sprouting forward.
I will remember Gary very warmly.

Gary was a good friend and crazy - in the good way. He was happy to talk to anyone, present his ideas and to inspire - a true community person. I'll miss him.
