In principle the mac can be used to identify a tablet when it connects to an access point(*) and it can currently be used to download the fiasco images from Nokia's site.
Since the mac address can be easily changed, it's not that effective for identification purposes, and a tablet owner can already download the fiasco image.

(*)the hack only changes it as seen by navicore, but nothing stops anybody from using the mac for other purposes once they know it. Most home routers won't keep a long term log of connected MACs, but some public access points do.

Before somebody asks how:

Code:
/etc/init.d/wlancond stop
ifconfig wlan0 down
ifconfig wlan0 hw ether 11:22:33:44:55:66
ifconfig wlan0 up
/etc/init.d/wlancond start
Oh, and there's also the possibility that vodafone will sue you, but I doubt they're interested in doing that.

My Update... At this point i figure tear it apart, hack it, and claim it to be recycling.

My license has expired on my way finder for Nokia n810. Is it possible,
seeing as you are no longer vested in this software able to give me a
means
to continue to use the product?

Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting us!

Unfortunately as Wayfinder shut down so there are no more subscriptions
offered.

Thank you for your quick response. What i am asking is that seeing as you all are no longer interested in this software why the rest of the people who bought and still use the program that they paid good money for cant continue to use the maps they already have installed. I could continue to use this to navigate without having updates. It is the only navigation software that was made for my device. Without it my device is almost useless.

I beg of you to forward this to any one that may be compassionate to help.

Thank you again for your time

I think you could now call wayfinder, "Abandonware".

I dont think they would mind if someone made a crack.

I called them a few weeks ago and they just said exactly whats on that email we are closing down there is nothing we can do.

Didn't Nokia BUY OUT the company that produced the Wayfinder app for the tablets? Way to show that commitment and rewarding your brand's customers. Dolts. You didn't even bother to give your brand's customers the OPTION of paying a higher price to have ANY kind of an update/upgrade for the old product. Way to go. Glad I've bought a DROID recently. I'll use THAT for my next drives down to Florida, Colorado, etc.

Heh.. It's moments like this when I wish there was a way to press a button to kick, shock or prick (rusty nail) a Nokia/Wayfinder/etc executive as a means to share the pain.

The surefire way is to do as you did, buy something else, anything just not Nokia.
