Resurrecting an old thread, but recently my MicroB browser has been defaulting to Google's mobile view. I click the 'classic' button, but it doesn't stay there. I've also changed the useragent field but no luck.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Fred

Very Recently google started sending me to their mobile search engine (not the smartphone mobile, but like the mobile for really old flip-phones/dumb-phones with internet) which is a huge pain.

Set gmail to basic html: https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=html&zy=h
Reload the page to remove the 'upgrade broswer' message.

Does not work in opera mini afaik.

Yes, I noticed this too. At this point in life I've partially given up on having a proper desktop experience in MicroB as it is now, and just hope that one day, some brave and able soul will figure out a way to make a newer version of Gecko work with MicroB (either the current closed-source-UI thereof, or by recoding the closed-source parts to get it to work).

For the record, it's happening even though I have my MicroB report a completely stock Firefox useragent. So maybe they're just redirecting all oldish browsers to the mobile page...

I take back what I said.

It seems that installing hideuseragent seems to have worked.

Here's a link for those who are interested:
http://my-maemo.com/downloads/search...=HideUserAgent

It may require a reboot for it to work.

Mentalis Traceur, don't give up on the desktop experience But yes, I do hope some brave soul will figure out what you said.

Cheers,
Fred

Yeah lol, HideUserAgent is mentioned in the very first post at the bottom. But it's very nice to know for sure that it's confirmed as working around this particular redirect. I was wondering if they were still using useragents or if they were using some other information 'leaks' from the browser, like screen size (if MicroB leaks that somehow, not all browsers do).

Better link (in my opinion, because I think it's best to default to the maemo.org repositories for apps whenever possible) to download from:
http://maemo.org/packages/view/hideuseragent/

Or, actually, you can just install HideUserAgent from the Extras-Testing or Extras-Devel repositories directly in the app manager if you have those enabled. Not sure why it's never been promoted to Extras, probably lack of tester/maintainer motivation...

Also, for the tech-savvy, you can do exactly what HideUserAgent does, by adding a user.js file in /home/user/.mozilla/microb/
with the line:
Code:
user_pref("general.useragent.override", "[desired useragent here]")
Which is what I do. In fact, my user agent is that of an old Firefox in general, not of the Maemo 5 MicroB browser specifically, and I still get sent to the mobile version... which is why I was unsure if they were going off of useragent string or something else. Seemed really weird of a decision, to send old Firefoxes to mobile....

Whatever though. At this point I just use DuckDuckGo instead of Google, and have been for months, and they don't do any annoying redirect-to-mobile wankery.

Alternatively, one can change the "keyword.URL" string to "http://www.google.com/search?nomo=1&hl=en&source=hp&q=" in about:config.

I thought I'd changed this already, but it somehow defaulted back to the original nokia one...
