I'd beg to differ.
I've customized my phone to run at nearly the optimum setup for me. Which is a huge strength of (custom rom) Android: flexibility. The only thing that's missing is true multitasking, but I have a large heap so more apps stay in the background and I kill the ones that I'm closing just by holding the Back button...so even then its not far off.

Galaxy NOTE N7000.
Latest 4.04 ICS. AOKang modifications.
Apex/Miui launcher. Custom lockscreen.
Custom transitions. Custom Multitasker.
Custom theme and custom notifications.
Favourite Apps, some customized (ad removed, inverted).
Root, SuperSU, Terminal, VNC (not used often).

I only need to get rid of VNC for Necesitas...and hopefully a custom kernel based on (official) Samsung ICS-NOTE and hybrid Linux kernel (AML project). That would be better than Alien Dalvik-Harmattan combination.

its crazy how google became the go to for phone modders, that was suppose to be the strength of Nokia at one point. Just their unwillingness to forgo battery life for performance killed the cat.
Thats not to say Android 4.0 is still bug ridden.

Optimized, but still nowhere near as usable or aesthetically appealing as Harmattan. I've used the Lumias and I'd rather have the N9 thanks.

The philosophy about MeeGo is:

-You could simply install it on your desktop (like Ubuntu)
-It would run on weak/old computers (like Ubuntu)
-It is a linux distro, so many applications can easily work in it
-It offers one of the best frameworks available for Applications (architecture independant, runs much closer and faster than Dalvik etc)
-It would basically be a linux distro, started from scratch using only the best tools (unlike Ubuntu full of many bloated features)
-It would be aimed primarily at ARM-architecture, with the possibility on running on everything (pmps, PCs, appliances).

Imagine having something like a Galaxy NOTE use even less battery but work equally fast.
Then seemlessly integrating it to your appliances "You are running out of milk, the oven needs to be checked, There is an intruder in your house I'm streaming the video to you now, Your car is consuming 12.34L per 100km, Sending Apps from your phone to your Tablet/PC etc etc"
