We just officially kicked off proto_V2 building with our partner GDC.
Great day, everybody happy.
Though a small sad detail: it will take longer than we hoped it will, until proto_V2 is falling off the end of fab line, since Nikolaus is pretty busy with other projects. Well, that's what a tiny project like this one has to live with, I guess. We do all we can to speed up the process. ETA for now is around end of November / start of December for the proto_V2. If it works like expected, we 'only' need to integrate the SoC in proto_V3 which then will already look like the final device, which makes a start of production around February look like earliest feasible date.

Many thanks to 311 supporters so far who stated they want a device, donated, and allowed us to get thus far in R&D.

I want to comment something. Let's bring the beers.

+2 for woohooo

Last I read nicholas was...out Now is in some state and handle the fab line? Is it possible for a regular user like me to get my hands on V? What is the main difference between V2 And V3 ?

I'm on fire so one more...is the spec 99% set for V3or will it be decided when closing in on release?

If I read this post and following Q&As correctly, yes! Just donate €1600 or more. €1500 for the prototype, the rest a deposit for the final device.

I really feel that Maemo HAS to be ported into the Neo900 for it to make sense. If I wanted an Android device, I would buy an Android device. The whole point of Neo900 is to use Maemo (Maybe Meego or Sailfish too). I don't like Android at all, it has this horrible lag even in the really higher end duo core and quad core devices such as the Nexus 5. The UI is rather hideous and horrid looking, IMHO. iOS really has a better GUI IMHO.

Now, if we could get Android apps on Maemo, Meego, or something similar, then that would be progress. Blackberry made it possible with the new 10 to run Android apps natively on it. Why can't we port it the same way for Android apps to run on Maemo/Meego vs. just using Android on a much slower device?

fptf

everybody says a fremantle port is feasible, now that certain technical challenges have been met. when working protoypes with socs appear, i imagine motivation for the port will increase. so, id say theres a better than 50/50 chance of maemo by the time production starts.

also, somewhere in shr/fso/qtmoko there may be another viable neo900 operating system.

Ummm...
I dunno there man...
you seem to be kinda contradicting yourself...

"If I wanted an Android device, I would buy an Android device.."

..." I don't like Android at all, it has this horrible lag...The UI is rather hideous and horrid looking..."

"Now, if we could get Android apps on Maemo.."

"IMHO. iOS really has a better GUI IMHO..."

So then it seems you are at a foregone conclusion....get an Android or IOS...since Android apps and a IOS gui would mean you no longer have a maemo device...but some horrid deformity IMHO

ummm. I imagine some may wish android or app capabilities...then port android or replicant to the neo900 if you want that.
Iphone? I imagine something could be done in a similar vein.
But frankly ...from what is said ....it will be easier to run a distro you like or wish on the neo900 than the n900.
As well Freemantle on neo900 would be great to run on the neo900.
If it will work fantastic ...if not too bad...but what the neo will run outweighs that loss.
For myself it is not "a make or break" killer if Freemantle won't run...there is far too much that (theoretically at this point) will work.
