It's a "why would I buy a steak for 20 bucks when I can get Spiced Pork And Meat for 0.98"
When you don't care what's inside, a can of SPAM is maybe just the right ting for you ;-)

Actually...

exactly which part of Android depends on Linux?

They could move tomorrow to a Windows NT kernel, and no one would be the wiser.

Heck, that's just what http://www.bluestacks.com/ and all the other Windows android implementations do.

Heck, that's what Alien Dalvik does! Even on iOS!

Android uses their own interfaces/HAL layer for almost anything that could be kernel-specific: audio, video, IPC, bluetooth, network, even security. It has as much to do with Linux as MS dotNET. And you can certainly trust Android does not have the best intentions for Linux at heart (rather the opposite), with even the Google ChromeOS guys having contributed more (in lines of code) to the kernel than all the Android guys combined.

I'm still surprised how little people realize that Android went to huge extents in order to abstract themselves from the kernel -- possibly so that if the need came they could move to a BSD/Apache or proprietary kernel. A need that did not come by because no one seems to care about GPL compliance either way.

(Sorry joerg_rw for the offtopic :P )

Exactly! The fact that mikegioia does not consider one of them a meat product does not mean it is not a meat product.

(OT: You might be surprised what passes as a meat product in the UK. I forgot the exact figures and am too lazy to look them up now but it was in the range of something like "at least 5% meat content" to be allowed to use a "meat product" label.)

Can someone help me on that point? Is that what the extra $1 item at the bottom of the shop was for? And what happens in case of refund issue or project failure?

I see that the shop is down currently. Hope it will come back, I was still trying to decide what to do, and the fact that I noticed the shop was not here anymore might mean that I was about to make an expensive decision.

[Edit] And about this one too, please :
When you say Debian, which version would it be? Would it be a normal desktop version? The stylus would be supported like a mouse, just like in EasyDebian? Would it be full support? I remember that not everything could work in EasyDebian.

I was not aware that is possible. The fact that up until quite recently there was a different kernel fork for android needs which was now accepted to mainstream led me to believe android does have some kernel dependencies (related to process handling and power management)

Considering this I didn't think it was possible to run android on any other kernel, without these features. (hence it would not run on win or osx kernels, those lacking the features...)

Shop is not down.
Literally just went in...
just now..
and again...
and again...

The shop is not down.

Every time thus far someone has said this..the shop actually wasn't down..

I would make a small suggestion ...
If someone is having problems with the shop..
instead of immediately "saying" .."the shop is down"...
(which does make for some small confusion and uncertainty amoungst those reading)

Please simply log back in ...
I imagine it is simply a personal connection issue...
perhaps individs are being "bumped" accidentally out of the shop due to the flood of interest..
At worst ...try to use a different browser.
Chrome works fine for me.
Firefox works fine too.

If the shop hasn't gone down yet ...
with all the traffic it's gotten...
I seriously doubt it is going to go down now...
unless David Letterman sings the neo's accolades on his very last show tonight...THEN I can see the shop going down under the weight of so many going to the shop.

So please people ...stop saying "the shop is down"
It hasn't happened yet..
It doesn't help.

I know it wasn't down down yesterday. But it was still "down" At the same time...If it takes more than 3.1 sec to load page... user might move on to another page and yesterday it took like 10 sec.

Today its almost instant so don't expect any " Its down" today.

Guys, It's up.

At least I don't see the link to the shop in the Neo900 webpage anymore. There used to be a "Shop" link top right of this page.

I tried /shop/ subdomain but with no success, it must be another URL. I also tried three distinct web browsers (on two computers).

I have the actual URL in the email I received from the Neo900 team to send me my voucher, but I haven't checked it to be honest. I believe it must work, if you say the shop is still here. I posted here when I saw the link was not on the webpage anymore, because anyway I had two questions to ask. I didn't come here just for the shop.

[Edit] So the URL is the following, and the shop is indeed up: http://neo900.org/#main

yes.
To make it crystal clear.

going to the "MAIN" page = http://neo900.org/#main
there is no "shop" button.
hence I believe some are thinking the shop is down.

going to the "SHOP" page = https://my.neo900.org/index.php
the shop button is in the upper right corner.
(as well the whole page screams that you made it to the place to put your money down. )

So for individs. thinking if they just head over to neo main site and easily "click" on the shop ..or think the shop is "down" (when it really isn't and hasn't gone down..)

just go the the shop page.
