Hi all,

I'm a long-time and enthusiastic user of the Nokia N9. Some time ago, I set up the synchronization of my agenda and address book with my own ownCloud server via SyncEvolution.

Recently, I'd generate and implement my own CA certificates for my web infrastructure at home. Now it's time to implement these certificates also on the N9. Since the standard process does not allow setting the necessary permissions for the certificates, I want to ask you, what actually the recommended procedure is: Do I need to install Inception, or Aegis Install Hack, opensudo … ?

I'm quite far away from being a nerd, but have a good and solid technical understanding and my intention is to do the job as efficiently as possible, safe (my N9 is a productive system!) and I'm really not eager to having to heavily play around.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Hi aspergerguy, thanks for the reply, I see, the forum is alive! :-)

I had already seen this information before. For me it would be OK, but I'm not entirely sure whether I should install as described Inception or should I better do it nowadays with the Aegis Install Hack... even I'm not sure if it's technically possible with Aegis Install Hack. I would like to take the current in place state of the art procedure.

Ah I see, aspergerguy already linked to the thread with all information.
Needed to check some other way-blocker. You should be lucky that the certs are not referenced in /lib/var/aegis/refhashlist.
acmcli --help will give you all other needed info.

As I am running my device only with open-mode kernel I do not need to bother with aegis, inception, whatever

So from my point of view inception is outdated, I guess coderus aegis-install-hack and/or his opensudo package is state of the art.
But please check the forum for more confirmation.

Hallo peterleinchen, since the N9 isn't supported anymore neither by MS nor by Nokia, and his ecosystem (maps, store) has also been beamed away, so, should I also move to the open-mode kernel?

I see absolutely no reason against it (anymore, neither a few years ago ). It will free you from any aegis road-stopper Nokia build into this little gem.
But also open up a lot more possibilities to tweak/mess-up your device.

Easiest way (okay, one of them) to go would be the ubiboot way

Tx for your support, peterleinchen.

I did decide to start for now with coderus aegis-install-hack and/or his opensudo package. That seems to cover my current need of been able to install correctly my own CA certificates (as I understand).

I will postpone the migration to the open-mode kernel to a later time, as this procedure needs definitely a more accurate planning and I'm assuming that finally it signifies also substantially higher efforts to bring my N9 up to the current 'productive' Status...

Best regards.

Okay.

But the open-mode way is also an easy way.
Ahh, not really. Now I remember that there were some reported problems with aegis and accounts when flashing an open mode kernel to a running system.
So best way is to reflash (flash forth and back ) even I had no problems like that and just removed my .aegis folders and recreated my accounts.
Yes, it seems your decision is a good way to start.
