I have an older .gho file created from ghost 11.5 as soon as I got my windows computer to the state that I wanted. I have moved that .gho file to an external drive.
How would I go about now reinstalling that .gho to the same computer using the symantec 11.5?

AFAIR the old gho images are no more compatible with Symantec BackupExec.
I had to struggle a lot and even needed a FAT partition (used disk floppy in VM) on my Win work device.

???
I am sure I do not understand.

Are we talking about Norton Ghost? Or Symantec?
Either way you need to create a bootable CD/floppy and then run the recovery. [maybe with newer version a bootable usb stick os possible]

You will need to use the ghost tools (specificaly the ghost boot wizard) to make a bootable cd or USB thumb drive.

Steps to make a boot disk are found here.
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH110134

With the Ghost Boot Disk created per the instructions above, connect your USB device and boot the computer you wish to deploy an image to with that boot disk. This should boot you into Ghost.

Once you get into Ghost, take the following steps to deploy the image locally:
1.Click OK on the informational Ghost screen
2.Click Local
3.Click Disk
4.Click From Image
5.Browse and select the image you wish to deploy and click OK
6.Select the destination drive (usually Drive 1, though make sure the drive you are restoring is the correct model and size).
7.Click OK, and proceed with image restoration.
