I just created a package of GNU Go for the N900. It's available in extras-devel.

To see what that's all about: http://www.gnu.org/software/gnugo/
And what is go, anyway? See here: http://senseis.xmp.net/?WhatIsGo

*** WARNING *** Don't install software from extras-devel, unless you know exactly what you are doing. This applies to GNU Go as well. Don't blame me when you break your device.

It's made from unmodified upstream source, so it should be relatively stable. I just had to modify the build process because of a qemu bug (using sbrsh it built without problems, but for the autobuilder it has to build in qemu, too).

It's fully optified, it should take up no root space at all.

Be aware that this is just the computer player, not a fully featured go program. You can play Go from the command line, just start /opt/gnugo/bin/gnugo. But it's not very comfortable... This program is meant to be used from a go playing gui application.

Now, I'm waiting for someone to port a qGo

Thanks for porting this over flOvermind !

Now, I'm also waiting for a graphical front-end...

Will willingly test and/or donate ;-)

I hope it will work. I am not that experienced to take that risk. Fingers crossed for your work :-)

GnuGo ist certainly cool, but playing on KGS would be even cooler..

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=44325 showed that you can actually run the KGS-client on the N900, so could someone who knows how to play Go please see wether or not the client not only runs but actually is playable?

Many thanks!

Playing Gnu-Go is great using monkeyjump

You need python-pygame and gnugo.

download the newest version of monkeyjump here

https://github.com/xyproto/monkeyjump

Change the path in conf/gnugocmd.conf to /opt/gnugo/bin/gnugo
Edit monkeyjump and change Resolution to (480, 480) and set Fullscreen to True.

You can also change to keybindings in conf/keybindings.conf

Have fun

HolgerN, maybe you could put monkeyjump into repositories and maintain it (i.e. update when updates come out)? It seems that you know it's internals well
