i will be having one of my relatives in the US buy an n900 for me to be sent here in the Philippines. it will work , right? just needed to be sure..

It should. It's a Quad-band GSM phone and Tri-band 3G.

It's pretty hard to find info on what GSM and WCDMA bands are used in the Philippines with a google search, but from what I could tell every single one of the carriers there uses frequencies compatible with the N900.
