We are pleased to announce a Irreco Widget, which allows users to control various devices (TV etc) directly from their home screen. Main idea is to create a simpler and more easy-to-use version of the full (Qt)Irreco application. We are hoping to release first version in next week, and develop it further based on user comments. So if you have some great ideas what this kind of widget would need, please post them here and we'll consider them. Contributions also would very welcome!

Here is a preview screenshot:

Irreco widget is now released and should be installable via Application Manager if extras-devel repository is enabled!

Excuse my n00biness but the widget still requires the (Qt)Irreco application right?

One word: Reboot

e: @Zokier i downloaded the remote for my telly and the volume + and - works, the off button works but won't turn it on, the channel + and - works but will only change one channel down or up and then nothing, ifi wait some time it will change one channel in the same direction again, but in that way it will take several min. to get through 20 channels.
I can see the telly reacts on the press on the channel changing buttons.
Is it a bug or just the remote the way it's set up from phillips?
Have had qtirreco installed and that worked fine with the same remote, no delay or not reacting

is it universal or should we download the qtirecco software too and download remotes alone?

Oops. Missed lirc as dependency. Should be fixed now in version 0.1-4. Nokia7Linux, please update, and if it still doesn't appear to your desktop or add widget menu, reboot. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The widget is completely independent of QtIrreco, although as both use lirc using both simultaneously is not advised. Irreco Widget currently overwrites /etc/lircd.conf which QtIrreco also uses, so some problems may arise.

edit: Dousan, thanks for the report. Will look into the channel change delays.

You download it through the widget, just tap and hold on the desktop and there will be a wrench on the widget. Press that and there you go on setting it up
