Hello!

I have made a MAEMO chroot which works on Android!

It does not work as it should, yet.

It can not write to the filesystem (the actually chroot.img). I'm not sure why.
I need to figure out how to build the scripts properly.

But I have got Maemo to boot.

I am unsure if I can release it as a lot of Maemo is closed source? I am not sure... I don't want Nokia being *****es..

I'll dump up a few screen shots, I'm just not sure what anyone wants to see

There is no GUI (yet? Maybe?), just command line (root access).

This could seem like a tease, sorry

If I can not (legally?) upload the files, I can give full details and tutorial (using your own rootfs/opt

Edit:

I have tried to use x11vnc (on N900 and chroot) to get some kind of GUI, but it's a no go...

1st error is: XOpenDisplay failed.
No Display or DISPLAY.

Maybe this could just be a setting/config?

Could not open X DISPLAY ":0"

Edit 2:
Sorry if this is not as exciting as I think
I just got damn excepted when it was running, after a few builds and setups.. I had to post up and inform anyone who wanted to know...

There is not much it can do right now. But if we can find a way to get the/ANY gui (closed source drivers IIRC) to boot, we could possibly have Maemo running on virtually every device..

I honestly don't care if it can not do much, it's just that I'm a Maemophile... I'm just happy to have my xTerm with me again!!

As for drivers, could we use drivers from the BeagleBoard maemo (beta4?) versions..

Maybe with the communities help, we could get it to be useful, but right now.. Not worth the effort for most people (IMO).

One off-topic question: what's with that banner? ("new script manager pro is out"). Can it be really true that the Android x-term has ads? or you are using some third-party x-term?

(Sorry I have absolutely no clue about Android, but it just hurt my eyes when I saw that).

Most of the free android apps does have advertisment in it.
Android does not have a shell out of the box.
There is nothing awesome like the maemo apps

I will admit, over the last week I have been playing with my new HP touchpad and reading up on how to get Ubuntu loaded on it and how the possibillties of running Hildon UI on top. But with this news, I am now wondering how possible it could be to have the full blown maemo OS on it?

That may have to be for another day for now.
