1) Kernel knows when a file is created
2) Upon file creation, have tracker index it.

Result:

A) Media player reflects current state of device - eliminates many reported bugs
B) Performance and user-experience is greatly improved. No more overloaded system.

The main problem with this is that in mass storage mode the kernel doesn't have access to the filesystem to detect new files. This will have to be done after exiting mass storage mode, bringing us back to the current situation.
