the N900 is one of the only mobile phones that can run a real java jre swing applications, and now at last I successfully acquired an N900 from a online market place. But it is network locked, and the carrier want more for the unlocking code as the phone costs .....

Is there any way to unlock the phone yourself without the carrier unlock code, or is it a hardware lock?.

Thanks for any help, a personal message is also appreciated

Fully flash the firmware with a global firmware and the Vanilla emmc image according to this wiki article: http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware

Read first to finally asked your question towards the PC OS, that you are using.
