Wasnt sure whether to start a thread on this as there are Flickr groups etc, however this feature seems to be left out of all discussions so far.

I was blown away by some of the photos out there on Flickr, for example:

Tuomas Kuosmanen's pics

Would be interesting to see what applications are released related to photography. Adobe just released an Android version of a basic photo editor..

So, I hope Ive not been overeager in creating this thread. What do you think?

This is good a thread I'm hoping to use the Gimp on my n900 some day.

GIMP is (as its name states) a GNU Image Manipulation Program.
It's meant to create or manipulate graphic images.
What we need is a program to manipulate photographs, rather than generic graphic images.

Is there a free Linux tool to do that?

This is a nice post that describes my very same feeling:

Looks like digiKam would do a great work, but needs to be adapted to the N900 UI and one needs a good tradeoff between usability and tools.

And it's already in Qt

I thought GIMP was purely for editing bitmap images? Not vectors? Which would surely make it more akin to P'shop? May be wrong..

Would this be an easy port? Maybe obvious that Im not a Linux user - I know things are not so straight forward in this new world Im entering, so please set me straight!

On my N810 I use Mirage for simple photo manipulation. I'm hoping it will be available for the N900.

This is being implemented for Maemo 6, but can be used in N900, too.

The GIMP is mostly for bitmapped images, but there has been work done on getting it to do vector graphics as well. Not sure how well it will perform on the N900.

Wouldn't you want to do serious photo editing on a more powerful machine, like your desktop? There are tons of great photo handling applications for the desktop.
