I'm trying to install the package "makedev" in the SDK. Installing it I get:

Code:
[sbox-FREMANTLE_ARMEL: ~] > fakeroot apt-get install makdev
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Package makedev is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package makedev has no installation candidate
My sources.list has:
Code:
deb http://repository.maemo.org/ fremantle/sdk free non-free
deb http://repository.maemo.org/ fremantle/tools free non-free
deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras/ fremantle free
deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras-testing/ fremantle free
deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras-devel/ fremantle free
I thought maybe it was in the nokia repos, so I added:
Code:
deb https://downloads.maemo.nokia.com/fremantle/apps/ ./
deb https://downloads.maemo.nokia.com/fremantle/mr0 ./
But running apt-get update with this, I get.

Code:
[sbox-FREMANTLE_ARMEL: ~] > fakeroot apt-get update
E: The method driver /scratchbox/devkits/debian-etch/lib/apt/methods/https could not be found.
E: The method driver /scratchbox/devkits/debian-etch/lib/apt/methods/https could not be found.
Hints?

I need makedev for a build dependency.

Thanks,

-Jeff

The SDK repo only has it in source form: http://repository.maemo.org/pool/fre...ree/m/makedev/

You could file a bug, requesting for it to be built, or you *may* be able to get away with uploading it to -devel...

May be a bit dodgy to do that since it is already on the device:

Code:
ii makedev 2.3.2~2.3.1-80 creates device files in /dev
Though I could just then at least built it locally from the source as you suggest, satisfying my build dep. Of course, then it would croak on the builder if I submitted it.

Thanks,

-Jeff

Ah, good point.

I'd go the "file-a-bug" route: http://repository.maemo.org/pool/diablo/free/m/makedev/ has a deb, so a regression must've happened. And now that Nokia have given out PR1.1 to testers, I suspect the SDK will be getting updated when Nokia officially release the update so filing a bug now may possibly ensure it gets included in the next SDK release.
