2g is good in locations which don't have 3 or 4....
most of canada doesn't have 3 or 4 ...
except near dense populated areas...
many providers here are dropping 2g this decade..
which I think is mad...(90% of the country has no 3g 4g service)
a few will still provide 2g...
looking at a service map (regardless of provider..) of canada you'll see what I mean...
I think it still would make a good emergency phone at worst imo.
but it would be better if it had 3g as well...
Now a country like germany, britain, etc..I would imagine it would make more sense to go with something with 3 or 4 g ...since (I'm guessing here...) you prolly have blanket coverage wherever you go.
Smaller countries with a high population ...I'd imagine are easier to do such extensive coverage.

Agree, 2G is basic necessity also for energy saving.
This story reminds me of the similar: who needs FM, all cars now have BT (yeah good luck with your rental in Africa or South East Asia..)

Africa? Asia? I live in the UK and I drive a 6 year new VW Golf. It does NOT have a BT (although it does have a useless iPhone connector). I have driven a handful of other cars (friends, business, rental...) in the past few years and NONE OF THEM had a BT but all of them had an FM radio.

I can bet that there is no production car which has BT but not FM radio.
In fact, FM radio is used by rich people too.

BT isn't too common in use, in comparison.
However, it is useful for phone calls and music playing.

I would have never expected this

How about Blackberry buying out Jolla. Is this likely?

It hadn't occurred to me till just now that AOL still existed. Or just what kind of business they'd be in these days . . .

Re: BlackBerry and Jolla. What might they want/need that Jolla has? BlackBerry has a hw and sw team already, I assume. It's not Jolla's market share. Or manufacturing capabilities. Patents, maybe? I can't think of anything off the top of my head.

I don't see any value in jolla itself right now...unless you have the customers, content and/or sales channels which means...why bother for a phone vendor?

to me...netflix should buy jolla, facebook might or alibaba/ebay...That would be great value.

Would love the new OS...NetFish

wow ...how innovative...I've never heard of a phone also being a pc.. () as I flip through mah n900..

I do admit what M$ is doing is tactically intelligent.
'buntu is heading that way too..
M$ is doing the only intelligent thing there is.. to stay relevant.
