My USB port became loose on Sunday after using it for approx. 20 months. I know opening up the phone and soldering could have prevented this, but since I still have warranty I didn't want to void it.. I was on a trip so I had to charge the phone. After I got home I made back-ups of everything important. After I was done with the back-ups I tryed to take off the cable.. The port came out with the cable, also three of the pads came out with the connector so I guess I'll be getting a replacement phone.

Since there isin't replacement N900 available I guess I'll get either E7 or N9. Hopefully I'll get N9 so I don't have to start using Symbian.. It's a shame since I really liked the N900. With CSSU it was really great device..

Tired a little of repeating that, yet, just sell whatever crap you're going to get, buy second-hand N900, and enjoy bunch of $$$ left after the process.

On my old N900 (warranty already expired) the USB port broke...

Fortunately I found a company which repairs it (soldering a new USB port on the board) for under € 100,-.
I'm very happy that this was possible because the other alternatives I requested on serveral calls toward service centers was at least 3-4 times more expensive offered.
Here my recommended contact (with his permission) for such repairing our old beloved N900 with broken USB-Ports:

I really suggest most people at least try a DIY soldering repair.
I did a quick web search for SM training kits and came across these.
This is $24 and is designed to teach SM soldering.
http://www.electronickits.com/kit/co...ace/ck1300.htm
I didnt look into it too deeply but it looks like the below actually sends people free SM soldering kits as samples, some places still do give away electronic components as samples.

Hi. I was sold a N900 cheaply because of a broken USB port. I opened it up and I can fix it, with enough patience and a steady hand with the soldering iron; problem is, I tend to lack patience, and precise fiddly repairs irritate me.

I'm thinking - what if I get rid of the speaker near the USB port, glue a full-size USB female socket in its place, hook it up to the traces of the original microUSB and Dremel the casing to fit?

I have no doubts about the practical feasibility of this modification (I'm not new to Frankenstein-style hacks), and it'd be nice to plug USB devices in without the adapter cable. The only thing stopping me is that not sure if I'm going to regret getting rid of the speaker. Does the phone work on just one of them? I can live with less volume for things like Youtube videos and live phone calls (which I practically never do anyway), and I only ever listen to music on earphones, but I wouldn't like it if the ringtones became too quiet to hear.
