I cant accept being told that what I see with my own eyes is false, so here is proof. Unedited, full resolution pictures of my N9 and an E7 on low power mode.

1. The setup

the two phones side by side
camera: Nikon D300
shutter: 30"
aperture: f1/1.4
iso: 1600

2. The phones in the dark. You can clearly see the dark blot on the upper left of the N9 (like the ones discussed on the relevant thread)

3. The phones with the light area covered with a box

4. Off vs LPM: Proximity sensor of N9 covered E7 lpm is always on

I stand corrected but I actually noticed it two days ago. I just happened to see in a darkened room that it was ever so slightly lit. I'm surprised I didn't see it the first time I looked for it in a completely dark room. Second occasion it wasn't as dark but I still saw it.

Please resize the photos.
They are way too large,

MicroB crashed when i tried to open the page. Hell... even my PC struggles to load them.

I'm suspicious that by placing the N9 face down, the screen would scratch even if in the original rubber case on a perfect flat but hard ground? At least if any dirt might be in between...
Don't wanna find out myself, so I put it on a cloth.
Am I paranoid?

Okay, so i decided to test out whether having the screen off does in fact save power

My spare N9 has no sim in it so doesn't consumer much power. Usual average idle consumption is 4ma

I fully charged my N9, and placed it face down for a whole day. Average idle consumption is now 3ma

So there is a difference, but only very minor. I'm not sure whether the 1ma is really worth it

Since day one, I have 3 mA of idle consumption. By the past, I made some testing: during the night I put the phone in a pouch (screen is off) or outside the pouch (screen is on). I did not see any difference of idle consumption.

I know why.

Because, besides the screen the thing that uses most power in a phone is not the processor but actually the Radio.

Placing the phone down means the radio is facing up and looking directly at the signal towers.

This could mean your phone locks on to a stable signal. If it doesn't your phone constantly turns off, on, searches, locks, and retries for cell signal.

I played DeadTrigger on my NOTE on 1.4GHz cpu and 300MHz gpu speed. Brightness set at 40%. I played it on a flight with Airplane mode for 40mins, it consumed 14% battery (83->69%).

While on the bus, after the flight, I continued the game without Airplane mode. I played it for 20-25mins. It dropped a whopping 24% (61->37%). Nearly triple the consumption.
