Just got my new n800, and have just installed the latest rtcomm beta (on the latest firmware). I struggled for a while to get my gizmo account to work, but it turns out that the website is case-insensitive for the password, but SIP authentication isn't -- took me a very long time to realise I was using capitals where I shouldn't.

It connects, and I can place and receive calls, but the audio is one way only, from the n800 to the phone. I cannot hear what is being said on the phone. I have also tried this with the echo test, but I get the same result.

Does anyone else get this problem, or know how to solve it?

You'll have to bother Gizmo about that.

I'm guessing this isn't installable on 2007HE?
edit: Couldn't wait for an answer so I went ahead and tried. Here's my notes from a sucessful install on OS 2007HE on a 770!

Went to site, did one-click install. Application Manager came up and tried unsucessfully to install it.
I checked what binary /usr/share/applications/hildon/osso-rtcom-installer.desktop was referencing: /usr/bin/betainstaller. So i got root and ran that command. Poof the App Manager opens again, does some sort of downloading or...? And then says rtcom is already installed. Hmm. So I cautiously reboot...and there's new options available in Internet Call. I successfully set up my gizmo project account as per directions on the rtcomm site.

..and made a test call to a nearby payphone Can't say how stable/usable it is just yet, but so far so good.

Here's what seems to be a list of what /usr/bin/betainstaller installed:

AWESOME! I hope this proves more stable than Gizmo's fuxored client.

double edit: As it says on the garage page, "DTMF is not reliable." ...meaning I can't check gizmo voicemail via their 611 number. Other than that, it's working excellent. Receiving and making calls is a bit quicker compared to the 10 second 100% cpu usage gizmo goes through. Tested and nicely functional with http://click2voice.com

..and that buttugly default icon (some sort of flat penguin?) is located at /usr/share/icons/hicolor/128x128/hildon/qgn_addr_icon_avatar.png for your haxing pleasure..
you can also change the heinous little purple dudes with headsets on to something else. It's at /usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/hildon/qgn_indi_voip_idle.png

After a few days of using this, I would not recommend it. You're better off with the horribly unstable Gizmo than trying to have two horribly unstable apps that conflict with eachother.

Just remove Gizmo and you're stable.

Just out of pure curiosity : how does one reboot "cautiously" ?

(sorry... couldn't resist :-)

how does one reboot "cautiously" ? :P LOL
It just makes a better story that way

Aaand, to add a bit more to the story:

I decided to uninstall gizmo-project and see if that perhaps helped the situation. Now I see that gizmo being installed was preventing the rtcom beta installer from completing properly. As soon as it was uninstalled via apt-get, this popped up:

Setting up farsight0.1-2-rtp (0.1.21-0osso1.9) ...

Configuration file `/etc/farsight/gstelements.conf'
==> Modified (by you or by a script) since installation.
==> Package distributor has shipped an updated version.
What would you like to do about it ? Your options are:
Y or I : install the package maintainer's version
N or O : keep your currently-installed version
D : show the differences between the versions
Z : background this process to examine the situation
The default action is to keep your current version.
*** gstelements.conf (Y/I/N/O/D/Z) [default=N] ? Y
Installing new version of config file /etc/farsight/gstelements.conf ...
Setting up osso-rtcom-beta (1.3-3) ...
Cache file created successfully.

Nokia-770-36:~# Reboot requested

What a trip. I'm off to test some more!

edit:
Holy crap that works a thousand times better.
Now there's no 20 second delay at the beginning of calls.
But how the heck do I check voicemail?
