..either under maemo or easy debian? I have two n900s and sometimes would like to play with them away from a "real" computer. So it would be neat to flash one with the other.

if you have USB hostmode you can run the flasher on one N900 to flash another N900. This has been done (I think it was explained in the U-boot thread, but I'm not sure).
