Cool! Maybe someday you could post instructions for doing this at home

Now we need another post from you, with the log off the serial console while booting the Neo900!

first batch of 24 sourced N900 arrived:
http://neo900.org/stuff/joerg/random...unbox_24_N900/
http://neo900.org/stuff/joerg/random...ple-inspected/
here the http://neo900.org/stuff/joerg/random...160414_006.jpg shows screenprotector with mountig foil still applied. Peeling off screen protector the digitizer genuine surface looks pristine: http://neo900.org/stuff/joerg/random...160414_007.jpg Alas peeling off and reapplying the protector gives us: http://neo900.org/stuff/joerg/random...160414_008.jpg
So I suggest I keep the protectors for our customers to decide whether they want to keep or remove them

At least it means that we can see whether the screen protector was removed before without peeling it off during the control, and therefore see if the N900 is still pristine from the first glance.

Hi,
another month of silence has gone again. I'm sorry to say that I feel not very comfortable with this. What about the status of this project, what about progress? Maybe it is an idea to inform the "community" in a more continous way eg in a agile style (not a daily scrum meeting, but every 2 weeks maybe). Please give information about:

What did you do last 2 weeks?
What will you do now and next 2 weeks?
Are there any impediments in your way?

I want to have a feeling that there is something going on....

Cheers

There are actually pretty good news: Joerg's search for someone to do
the layout of the v2 prototype finally paid off, and we're now working
out the details of how to accomplish the transition.

As expected, this will involve a change of EDA (Electronic Design
Automation) tools: at least the layout will be made with Altium,
instead of Eagle. While Altium is an expensive commercial platform,
this is actually more open than what we had planned before, given
that Eagle would only have been suitable with Nikolaus' private layout
tools (for Eagle). So instead of being compatible with only a single
person, our process will become compatible with a sizeable portion of
the EE (Electrical Engineering) world.

There is also interest in using KiCAD, which would be optimal regarding
openness, but this option is still being researched. In any case, there
is a tool (altium2kicad) for converting design files from Altium to
KiCAD that seems to be quite good.

Knowing what tools will be used for v2 and what inputs will be useful
for the layouter unblocked a lot of other things, since we can now
plan and implement a strategy for migrating the design to these tools.

So we're happily busy cleaning up the schematics and converting things
that used to be Eagle-centric to be Altium-friendly.

Interesting. I have read your post but I could not interpret it as "good news", however hard I tried.
All I read was, "more delays"

He did not "leave" the project, but is busy (for several months) with Pyra. Joerg hinted at the situation in this post on tmo:
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=1502058
Though I can see how this could have been ambiguous.

In any case, the issue was discussed extensively on #neo900. This is the first mention I could find:
http://irclog.whitequark.org/neo900/2016-01-29#15341340

Nikolaus mentioned his (un)availability situation here:
http://lists.goldelico.com/pipermail...ch/001383.html

Joerg made some attempts to use the regular layout functionality of Eagle, i.e., mainly the autorouter, but that ultimately only confirmed that Eagle (without Nikolaus' private tools) was not suitable for the task.

There were other things to work on while the layout situation was stalled, e.g., sourcing, mechanical, and also some component issues, but that of course did little to bring v2 closer. So I'm rather happy that we can finally continue progressing with what is in our "critical path", even if the other things are of course important as well.

I can feel with you about the lack of info and I hope for Hellekin eventually picking up on the communication officer task. I'm honestly too busy (not only with Neo900, there's also a world beyond that project and the mess of running a company) to do daily updates on what I did and what I plan to do, but I suggest to join freenode IRC channel #neo900 where I'm posting way more frequently than here and I'm almost 24/7 available for questions. If somebody would pick up on the task to ask such questions in IRC and write a maybe weekly short summary for posting it in here, that would benefit everybody since it leaves more time at my side for working on the major task of building the device and it allows community to participate more than just waiting for infrequent TMO updates by me.

cheers

An excerpt from freenode IRC channel #devuan (Jaromil being the founder of https://www.devuan.org basically)

[2016-05-31 Tue 20:37:51] <jaromil> DocScrutinizer05: we were talking about you just now me and hellekin
[2016-05-31 Tue 20:38:25] <jaromil> and we think we have great potential and should put some things straight with the neo900 community
[2016-05-31 Tue 20:38:28] <jaromil> so we can help each other
[2016-05-31 Tue 20:38:39] <jaromil> lets say you can count on all the CI infrastructure
[2016-05-31 Tue 20:38:44] <DocScrutinizer05> :-)
[2016-05-31 Tue 20:38:48] <jaromil> and we spin the images on it
[2016-05-31 Tue 20:39:02] <DocScrutinizer05> that sounds AWESOME
[2016-05-31 Tue 20:39:10] <jaromil> so you can concentrate on the coding
[2016-05-31 Tue 20:39:37] <DocScrutinizer05> well, coding is ... Pali and freemangordon ;-)
[2016-05-31 Tue 20:39:40] <jaromil> this would be a good goal and win win, doesn't costs much right now
[2016-05-31 Tue 20:39:48] <DocScrutinizer05> indeed

This means that Maemo and particularly the FPTF "fork" have a cooperative and helpful compatible upstream again. Plus a Devuan that works OOTB (though without several of the maemo-specific apps, of course), for all the Debian fans.

(on an irrelevant sidenote: Hellekin already created a new git with bugtracker and all for internal Neo900 maintenance et al there, and I hope we'll see a [public] FPTF branch shortly too)

cheers
jOERG
