Hello!

Long time no see.

We have been quite busy in several projects but of course we didn't forget about Canola. This version was really to put order on things and I believe we have improved a lot.

you are not going to notice new features or this or that, but things that people have been complaining a lot have been improve quite drastically.

All libraries were updated, scanner and thumbnails are brand new and /or improved to a really good level, there's a preview of a simple grid for picture view (it really speeds up the scrolling of pictures) - enable it in the settings!

And here's the changelog :

* Updated to latest revision of the Enlightenment Foundation Libraries
* Allow user to reset database
* New configuration options added
* Entire albums or directories can now be added to the OnTheGo playlist
* New simple grid available for the Photos screen
* Image loading is now alot faster
* User can decide whether to scan for new media on startup or not
* Cover fetching works again
* Canola now shows which music you're currently playing on My Music
* Ogg and Flac support improvements
* New Maemo home applet to launch Canola and scanning for new media
* Improved feedback given to user while scanning,fetching new covers
and generating new video thumbs
* Bug fixes galore
* Optimizations galore!

-----

apart from that, check out as well :

http://thememaker.openbossa.org/

It's a web tool for those windows user, that wanted to do themes but didn't have linux to create installable debian packages.

you can download the style sheet (a photoshop file with everything there and "slice guidelines") change the graphics you want, slice, save it all in a zip file upload and tcharam! you got your ready to install theme, and you can even allow us to publish it (Creative commons) on the theme maker website!

So please: If you are brave enough : add extras-devel to your repository and test as much as you want the new Canola2.

This is the final release, after that we will remove beta status, and open source the whole code (in max 3 weeks!)

It installed without the usual drama.

Edit 1:

- Start-up is quick, downright zippy.
- Animations are smooth.
Where is the
New Maemo home applet to launch Canola
located?

Just got the n810 and I'm a bit of a n00b. Just installed canola with the last fm plugin but I notice there's no support for the playlist?

Like I have a custom playlist and a library- library just plays the music I would listen to and the playlist is a specific track list I made with up to 200 songs. Are there any plans to add those features- because without them I can't really replace vagalume and I find last.fm much better than storing all my music on any device because I can play my music anywhere with last.fm.

Cover arts are not working for me . Here is what I have done

1. Uninstalled Canola2 beta 10 and all plugins
2. Run Canola cleanup
3. Disable all repositories except Extras-Devel
4. Download and install Canola2 beta 11
5. Download and install Canola Tuning Plugin 0.2.1-maemo1

When I click on one of the cover art options , I get the following ( in the terminal window when doing a 'canola -vvv' ) .

ERROR ui:98:use() unknown object type 'RowSourceModel' ( expected Model or Controller )

There is no response to pushing the button inside the application

Hi Dj, I don't know if I got correctly but did you try loggin in with your user name on the settings menu?

That way the things you create on the last.fm site will be available for you.

Let me know if this is what you're meaning, if not we will add to the list.

Remember: you can :
Disable the "scan for media at startup in the settings -> general) this will speed up the start after the first usage

Disable the "optmized thumbnail screen" -> back to the proportional thumbnails( we are doing the final image square thumb screen with the sorting options requested in the next release if possible)

Thanks for your continuing work on Canola

Ogg and Flac support improvements
It didn't recognise my ogg files before and still doesn't recognise them now so I guess the "improvements" lie with FLAC.

Why is ogg so difficult to support on what is, after all, a Linux device, I wonder.

Is it just me, or is this taking up a lot more space than before? (Curse this abysmally small root file system!)

The interface feels a lot snappier.
OMG real videocasts support!
OMG nice default videocasts!

Photo viewing is definitely improved.

Just out of curiosity, will we ever see something like that nice YouTube plugin from beta 10 again? There was something particularly entertaining about browsing comments in it.
