Recently every time I connect to Facebook chat I get disconnected after approx. 5 secs. Is anyone else experiencing this behavior? Does it work fine for you?

Yes, and the contacts that I had only on facebook disappeared from my contacts. And ther eI though I inadvertedly uninstalled facebook plugins.
Edit: And facebook is listed in my accounts but without an icon and when I go to accounts, it is not listed so I cannot remove it and I cannot add it either as it is not in the list. Is it similar to your problems?

But sorry, no idea why it doesn't work for you. Can you post output of
dpkg -l | grep fb
dpkg -l | grep facebook
-l = non-capital L
Let's see if your version match the versions that I have
