Hi,

Travel Guide app for Nokia N9, is now freely available in Nokia Store: http://store.ovi.com/content/357598

Travel Guide is an application that displays content based on device location. It displays wikipedia articles near you and answers the question what is this place and what interesting locations are nearby.

Enjoy.

Really nice and usefull app. Thanks for that.

That being said, may I ask if there will be support for optional images being displayed?

And perhaps a search function, not based on GPS?

Edit: typo's.

Really nice. But most places are found if English is selected. When I switch to dutch some places are gone. I guess due to no written articles in dutch of those places? ^^

My plan is to keep the App such that it only displays content based on the location, it's not intended to be a Wikipedia client. For the time being I'm not displaying the images, and I might keep it that way.

I don't know if I have much time to develop the App, but if I have I will most likely take it more towards and offline capabilities. So, the use case would be that at a hotel or some WiFi spot user could download the articles to the device before going to explore a city and if there is an interesting location user can check if there is an article on that location without a need of using data connection.

That's most likely the case. Depending where you are, there might be more articles available in local language than in English, or abroad there might be very few articles available in your mother tongue. Also to find the article, the articles must be tagged with a coordinate, so if that information is missing then it's not displayed.

Thanks. The reason for a search function would be to be able to do some trip planning in advance. That would also allow you to cache pages while still on your wifi at home. Either way, appreciated.
