Seeing as MS is "donating" 1 billion USD to the cause of getting rid of Nokia's open source ambition, if we were to simply match that offer that would mean about a 20000 USD from every member of TMO if counting each and every one past and present; or if we can only reach the currently participating members that would be more like a 7 to 8 digit amount per each member.

So, ladies and gentlemen, ready your checkbooks! (Can someone spot me on this, dont't have that kind of cash on me right now..)

Jokes aside - seeing a kickstarter project succeeding in making an acceptable open source phone is probably more likely than seeing Nokia reverse its course before it hits the iceberg.

The power of money!

The rich men in this work can ask what they want.

The richer get richer and the poorer get poorer.

there's a cheaper solution its called "Chinese Manufacturers" they are into Quad core's right now , going head to head with S3 & even beating it in some aspects

they can easily make a Quadcore Debian Phone if all members of TMO order

Most realistic solution is to support Linux Foundation, Samsung and Huawei in their Tizen-project in every way possible. Same time port Qt to Tizen so well, they cannot afford to leave it out.

I will trust Samsung hardware and support more than some random Chinese manufacturer.

I still want
- Maemo
- QT and Gtk
- Resistive Touchscreen
- FM-Transmitter/Reciever
- CIR-Transmitter
- Hardware Keyboard
- Nokia phone know-how

Nokia has everything but doesn't sell it.

It is unrealistic now. Nokia has exclusive contract with Microsoft, so it cannot make smart phones with any other OS but WP still in 4 years.

If Nokia would break the contract, it would probably cost about 2 billion euros as a penalty. Nokia has "only" 4.9 bn€ cash left, so it would be too expensive.

There still is a very little hope.

If there will be a hype on linux phones with tizen that will impress Microsoft.

Microsoft could easily participate at this market via Nokia.

They could do like they did with Novell and SuseLinux.

Maemo is still a good competitor against tizen, if Microsoft and Nokia don't wait to long.
