if N900 and N9 aren't good for you i tried a lumia 520: my mum bought it for 130€, it's a 1GHz dual-core, GPS is really fast and you have all the games you want. that's not a phone that suits me but for my mum's usage is perfect
i think this is much better than an android phone and for that price this is the best choice

If you want an N900 then I think you should just get an N900.

Instead of buying a "new" one from East Asia, do what I did. Buy one used from some guy in Texas (or wherever) through Ebay for $150. It's in great condition and works wonderfully.

If "apps" are all you're about, I don't know what you're still doing on real Linux device. Crapdroid market get 100+ "new", erhm, games (have problem to call this wave of, mostly, crap, as "games") every day, with similar number of other crapware "apps", (full of low-quality content, visual over-hype, form over usability, and adds. Tons of adds.). It should be your nirvana.

Now, if you're asking - on maemo.org - about "better" options than N900, then there are none, N9 including. There (probably) *will* be a upgrade in form of Neo900, but count for 700 EUR rather, and for sure it won' be more "mainstream". Which I'm glad for

What a weak and reply. I have no interest in your fanboy-ism. I've never had an android or IOD phone so i have no idea what the experience is like. my first smartphone was an n95, after I dropped it too stories, and put it through a complete wash cycle i decided to stay with nokia because i was suprised with its durablity. it still works and graduated to the n900 and haven't needed a phone since.
so sill take a crapdroid.
I have no patience for your trolling ***. If your not here to help logoff.
The n900 is the only nokia phone that has had support by a dedicated community since its release and is still coming up with updates and useful applications. Meego doesn't have the same base. Soooooo... I want a mainstream phone.

I also was thinkin of lookin for other options like the N950, Lumia 1020 and lumia 1520 but, am gonna let my maemo rule.
Don't know what a neon900 is. I've been trying to use goole and i'm not getting good feedback. Is it anything like the Jolla Sailfish phones I've been seeing?

  • HW specs? Pretty much any modern phone will beat N900 on that.
  • Availability of "apps"? See Estel's post above and head in the direction of Android or even iPhone.
  • Camera? Much as it hurts me to say that, go for a Lumia. You might have a hard time finding one in your price range though.
  • Hardware keyboard? You might be stuffed here. The most recent decent phone I found that has one was Samsung SGH T839 Sidekick, and that was released in 2011.
  • Closest to a computer in your pocket? Forget it, there's nothing else!
I've been fearing that there is nothing else.. anywhere!
I meant on par or better relative to the maemo 5 experience.
Maemo 5 is awesome because unlike modern phones it doesn't become obsolete. what i mean is I phone 3gs users won't be able to update to the new ios7. just the 4 and up.
