Hello,
In my N900 the mappero application is not working for some time. I am getting a blank map there with only the navigation/control buttons.

I tried renaming the .maps folder and thereafter also reinstalling mappero, but that doesn't solve the problem. I don't want to reflash right now, because I have a near perfect setup for my use in almost all other aspects.

New installation in the newly created .maps folder by mappero does not have any subfolder (only the file poi.db) although map repository sync is working.

When I checked the ovi maps application, I found that too is not working. I have the whole map of my country preloaded there. Though I don't use it, I kept it as a backup. Mappero is great.

I searched the forums for the solution, but I found that the problem was mentioned only once for mappero but the solution was not there.

Personally Mappero is extremely important for me. I use it as a standalone gps in emergency situations in the mountains(getting lost/estimating time and distance/whiteout etc).

Any help regarding the matter is highly appreciated.

Regards.

For me Mappero works fine.
And also OVI maps.

That sounds to me more like a read access problem on your MyDocs (p1) partition. Maybe file system corruption?
Please check and elaborate a bit more...

peterleinchen, thanks for your reply.
I accessed the .maps folder (both new and backup) and opened the poi.db in text editor, which it successfully loads. Still is it possible there is some error reading the partition? All other files are intact as well.
Regards.

If there is only the poi.db under .maps then you just miss the map tiles completely!
There should be some folder like OpenStreetMapI or others.
Did you delete them?
Or have auto download maps enabled.under settings?

Yes Sir, currently the map tiles are missing(because i backed up the folder), but even when they were there the problem was all the same. Auto download is enabled in mappero settings. Maps are neither being downloaded nor pre-downloaded ones are being used(regardless of internet connectivity). I guess I wrote too much in the first post and it became somewhat unclear.
Regards.

Hmmm, that's weird.
Only one thing to check whether selected maps in Mappero match the folder name in .maps (but I guess that is also correct).
Out of ideas ...

Did you manually create the .maps folder after backing it up?
Did you by any chance do it as root to prevent user write-access?
Did you try to delete the folder and let mappero create it it during startup?

No, I just renamed .maps to .maps_bak(as root) and let mappero recreate it in the new installation.
Now after reading your reply, I renamed back .maps_bak to .maps. Then I did sudo gainroot, cd MyDocs/ , chmod 111 .maps which should solve permission issues if any.. but it didn't solve the problem

How would that make a difference? Unless the OP has changed the MyDocs format from FAT32 to something like ext3, that is. Err, have you, goodearth?

Did you recheck the permissions
Code:
mount
ls -al /home/user/MyDocs/.maps
First command to check read/write for myDocs partition (and filesystem in question), second to show permissions and content of .maps folder.
