I hope there's devs here who are also musicians who'd have the same interest. I'd like to make 3 music apps:

- guitar tab
- virtual piano/keyboard with notation
- drum sequencer

use Timidity behind it I guess, but some light .wav's would be great.

As for me I'd handle the graphics/names of the apps.

Any interest?

to both of you above...

something like Acid Pro or Garage Band would be great!

Also, see this: Bhaji Loops a Palm OS app that is still incredible by the standards in which the developer Olivier had to work with...

Make sure and scroll to the bottom and click on the community and poke around.

A few people were interested in this with the Garnet VM.

As a new user to the NIT, I am not comfortable enough yet to play with this.

I would be curious to here what you guys think!

If you look more closely around, you find this 3 and mores audio applications already created or abadonned...

i test a lot and my last drop is : N8x0 is not quiet fast and strong for manage more then 2 or 3 track (really no bugs)

+
you can play little bit whit one tone instrument whit different swap like Boxar or Theremin, or try port some Timidity or others on the tablet...Milky is not bad too...but agin ou dont got the ''good'' and ''respectfull'' performance you want for just track a good shot...

-no input exept built-in microphonne don't help for any recording live stuffs

-sequencer stuff stock after 3 or 4 tracks with one effect
better use a full laptop or webtop

-some drums project exist in different ways but again, ''live'' playing on knob pad is not really good responding in attack and all the envelope of the sounds...
and pathern drumming is jerked buffer after 6 track midi poo

anyway ...i hope the new device comming soon get a better performance for finaly porting a ''real efficient'' audio application
audio sponger
cheers

The really tough part was getting sound working. I found an old post to get sound working in scratchbox. Although it was a correct procedure, it didn't work for me. After a while I remembered from the Maemo summit that Fremantle runs pulseaudio (as opposed to esound in diablo). After that I did some googling and figured how to transport the sound over network using pulseaudio server and client. Here are couple useful links.

So if you read pulseaudio+all ALSA libs in .wav native (and futur .ogg consideration make more sens for built somethink good
i hope we have more then one input in this futur 2009 box

SO what about MIDI I'm sure it can run more than a few tracks that way. My concern isn't so much track numbers, just light composition tools for those famiilar with guitar tabulature, or notation, and drum sequencing.

http://www.milkytracker.net/?download

Milkytracker have a linux source so maybe you can port something for you tablet...but at the risk to repeat myself...n8x0 is not a good device for midi/audio stuff...but feel free to broke your head for make your buffer fully busy

Edit : the port for maemo is allready http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/milkytracker/

i test it last summers...make your own opinion by yourself

I know of Milkytracker but it's tiny. There needs to be something simpler and a bit bigger not necssarly for finger use, but easier to use a stylus with.

I will whip up some UI examples tonight.

We have music application project named JamMo. It is under high development on summer 2009. At this moment there are no working version for tablet because it is targeted to Fremantle.

http://jammo.garage.maemo.org/

Videos on webpage are about small children composing game, but underlaying sequencer has more functionality and we have plan to make advanced sequencer for older users.

For developers: Backend is GStreamer and graphics use Clutter-toolkit (which is the main reason why it doesn't work on n810).
