Installing this with debinstaller did the trick.

Thanks everyone for help. Now I can continue waiting a Sailfish phone with decent hardware and more mature software

Now, this is strange. I have noticed that if I receive a SMS that contains character 2 (number two) it is displayed as character 6 (number six). Anyone else having this problem?

These messages that I got and in which the 2 is replaced with 6 came from a Symbian phone (Nokia E6).

This doesn't seem to happen to me with SMS sent from Windows Phone. Although I think I'm running an older version of libemojitils .

There is also something strange going on with outgoing SMS. People do receive the messages as they should but some automatic services seem to have problems with my messages now.

There are atleast two use cases where something goes wrong:

1. My bank needs SMS confirmation when I am transferring funds from one account to another. They want me to send them a message with letter "A". Fails all the time.
2. My mobile operator wants me to send them word "salasana" (this is just password in Finnish) if I want to check what my password for their webservices is. However, sending the word results to answer "Unknown number" (they use the same number for phonenumber inquiries) which leads me to think that there is something strange going on with character encoding of the outgoing messages.

I checked both services with same SIM card on (unpatched) N900 and they both work. So it seems that the problem is with N9 and the patched library.

I can't remember anymore what version of emojifix patch I installed, how can I check the installed version?

I would start to pester the mobile operator.
It is their service that fails and they should have a log of that!

About version:
not easy but doable. Download latest version from thp once more and compare md5sum of download and installed version. (or something like that )

I have the same problem with a patched N900 but so far I had no time to look into it.
It is a prepaid sim card and for booking extra options or flat rates I also need to send sms which can't be interpreted by the service.

Hi,

Sorry for simple questions, but just desperately need for help a bit here. Looking for still extending the use of my N9, but this silent discarding of increasinly popular emoji SMSs has now became a fatal bug requiring an immediate patch.

The problem is i didn't do any rooting tricks before the Store closed. Now i have studied the matter here a lot for first time and found that "Resurrect your N9"
https://wiki.maemo.org/Resurrect_your_N9
very useful wiki to set up the basic tweaks post-Store.

Managed to follow the steps there to succesfully install Repomirror, Warehouse and Developermode.

But the wiki does not tell anything about the crucial Emojifix. Now I'm stuck: the Emojifix can be found at the site provided in this thread, namely
https://thp.io/2014/emojifix/
but the only downloadable thing now is the emojifix_packager.sh (no .deb files there, direct links result to 404) without any step-by-step instructions to non-developers, only link to this thread.

So my questions are:
1) How to run/install this package and is the .sh -file the correct one? Browser won't execute it, I can download it, save to /home/user/ , open terminal, run devel-su and chmod u+x (which allowed only if copied to somewhere else), but still i can't run it. Which dir to download to, which terminal/shell to use, how to start in it, and how to run the .sh -package? Or do i need the aegis-thing for this? I would need to walk through without flashing/reseting the phone, is that even possible regarding aegis-hack?
2) Could someone pls add that info as essential step to "Resurrect your N9" wiki? (Along with another essential: which/how to install whatsup equivalent)
3) Is the issue with switching numbers 2 and 6 solved?
4) Is the issue with simple SMS services (bank, etc) solved? Maybe that is due to the emoji char extender/header being added to outgoing sms even if the message doesn't have emojis? The outgoing emojis is not priority, rather the functional SMSs services!

Looking for most minimal, easy, safe, non-messing, non-flashing way to patch this with step-by-step instructions. Anyone? Huge thanks in advance!

You would need to install Coderus Aegis-install hack package from here:
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=90750

Some users benefited from this resource which also shows command to allow installation of package:

Harmoji can be sourced from here: https://code.google.com/archive/p/harmoji/
