I know the smart dial is enabled but for that you need to slide out keyboard and finding a contact in the dialer using the select contact option is a pain when you are using single hand only. I would suggest to enable smart dialing using the virtual dialpad so you type the name and the number is displayed... this will help a lot in the single handed usage of the phone.

Second option is to enable a virtual keyboard like N97 to find the contact easily (although i will vote for the smart dial option using the dial pad)
