So no 192kHz but at least 96, and actually even 32bit on top of the 24bit you requested.
Awesome thank you! Wow that is a Burr Brown and a decent DAC for that. Will it still have a high voltage output like the N900 does?

Also when you say I can hook up an external DAC/AMP via USB, this will only work with USB 1.0 DACs and Amps that don't need a driver, correct? Or will it work with standalone DACS like the Schiit Bifrost http://schiit.com/products/bifrost and portable DACs like the iQube V3 or V5? http://www.moon-audio.com/iqube-v3-p...-amp-dac.html#

If so I can help you advertise the new N900 on the Head-Fi forum to the guys there and they would definately be interested! :-)

We are planning to use an excellent low-noise low-distortion highly efficient class-D amp for speakers. The amp used for AV should provide at least same high-voltage capabilities like N900. The USB-hostmode should support USB2.0.
thinking aloud (quote from IRC neo900 channel):
[2014-06-10 Tue 04:20:10] <DocScrutinizer05> how about a special audiophile option you may order? Which adds absolute top notch quality for all audio components, additional extreme filtering of analog voltage power supply, special shielding for complete audio path, and particularly kicks out all components that are implementing dual use of AV connector for stuff like FM-RX antenna or AHJ/OMTP switch, since those might have usually negligible but for audiophiles absolutely relevant negative impact on audio quality.
[2014-06-10 Tue 04:23:23] <DocScrutinizer05> we might even add a software on top which disables all other audio (feedback clicks, phone audio, ringtones, etc) and switches the codec from the default 48kHz sampling rate @ 16bit to 96kHz @ 24bit or even 32bit
[2014-06-10 Tue 04:28:22] <DocScrutinizer05> of course the AV out then comes specially tuned to match line-in impedance and voltage of external stereo amp, when you order this variant. Or we tune it for usage with high impedance headphones (300 Ohm for example)
[2014-06-10 Tue 04:29:50] <DocScrutinizer05> tell us about your major usecase and we optimize the audio output characteristics individually for you. You just need to tell us which headset or amp you want to connect to Neo900
[2014-06-10 Tue 04:32:40] <DocScrutinizer05> on your request we even can remove the headset microphone functionality to further improve stereo line-out characteristics of AV jack (convert from 4pin to 3pin)
[2014-06-10 Tue 04:35:37] <DocScrutinizer05> suboption direct-audio: we feed the output of the very fine (102 dBA SNR) DAC directly to the 3.5mm jack, no amps no nothing in between. You take care about amplifying the signal by an external amp you connect

Sorry, the SoC (CPU) doesn't offer support for USB3.0. Retrofitting with adapter chips is useless and will not be considered.

Updated post#1 - folks you should have called me out on that one a 6 month ago the latest ;-)
Sorry for neglecting it.

on a sidenote: admire Werner's awesome work in preparation for giving the whole development process a clean touch&go: http://neo900.org/stuff/werner/tmp/n...2014061708.pdf

I'm not sure if this link was already posted somewhere, but even if it did, I guess it won't hurt to make it more visible.

If someone is still confused on GDC's role in the project, why it "stepped down" and if it will still work on the project, please see this mail from Nikolaus: http://lists.goldelico.com/pipermail...ne/005711.html

It's yet to be decided on how exactly GDC is going to contribute to the project. We need Nikolaus to return from his vacations in a few days, which is also when transfers from GDC to Neo900 UG and processing refunds will continue

An impressively open - and plausible - response. Much the same from this side too. I REALLY hope this initiative survives and prospers.

To those involved, enjoy the summer, breathe deeply, relaaax.......

(I know, o/t)
