Or even do away with the display altogether.
Actually, that technology already exists. It's called... a projector.

Well it does have some things yet to be developed further, even though you are correct there that some models are very pocketable.

A projector is not optimal display device when commuting in a train or bus for example, it needs some kind of flat surface to project on, and to be usable you need to mount it somewhere. (holding projector in one hand and surface in the other is a no-no)

What I consider the killer application is equivalent of a newspaper; it should be easily foldable/rollable, be durable and have good contrast ratio and high enough resolution to be used anywhere.
Plusses for reasonable environmental protection and low energy consumption.

I think you excpect too much. It takes years until foldable screens are ready. And even more to find the ultimate design.

This a small step for HTC but a giant leap for mankind.

Several years ago I saw a dual screen phone for sale at Best Buy. If done right, I like the idea of using one screen as a keyboard as needed.

The real thing. It won’t happen during our lifetime. Unless we somehow get access alien tech.

At my age, I expect to live for another 30 years or so.

30 years ago, the country I lived in was in grips of the deepest socialism. If anybody had told me at the time that a mere 2 years later the Iron Curtain would fall and that I would eventually end up living, working, having a family and a repaid mortgage in a rotten Capitalist West, I would have called an ambulance with some nice men carrying a straitjacket.

Around the same time, my grandparents, still alive at the time, decided to split their life savings among their five grandchildren, yours truly included. It looked like a large amount of money at the time. Just a few years later it was worth next to nothing.

Lessons like these have taught me never to make plans for longer than a couple of years ahead. Equally so, they have taught me never to make judgements like, "it won't happen during our lifetime".

Amen.

30 years ago we all lived in a totally different world, so alien to what we have today it might well belong into alternate reality fiction.

The only way we can deal with the change is not to think about it daily, and when we do we shade our sight with nostalgia...

30 years from now the world will again be so radically different it indeed merits calling in the men-with-straitjackets to take one away if one publicly speculates on what it will be like.

BTW, why limit your possible lifetime to 30 years? it might conceivably never end...

That is not the same thing guys. In 10 years we have something new, like today. But guess what... it’s still not what how you want it

One step at the time. Crawl, walk...fly
