Can you post the link to the theme. So I can make some test to figure
out what happens.

I found the reason, the theme files doesn't paint the background.
The background is a .png file referred by the svg files. When
you select a theme for the clock, I copy the theme files to a
configuration directory
(/home/user/.desktop_clock_widget/theme/"NUMBER-OF-THIS-WIDGET")
But I do not copy this .png file.

You can try this:
Find out which theme directory in the config directory belongs
to this widget (for example:
/home/user/.desktop_clock_widget/theme/desktop-clock-widget.desktop-0)
And copy the Clock.png and Clockmiddle.png to this folder.

elie-7:
This happened to me today, I was unable to the put the clock back on the desktop until I deleted the offending theme directory.

nicolai:
The theme dosen't seem to be the problem; only today have I installed this widget for the first time. I had been trying out 5/6 different themes when hildon-home crashed, afterwards I couldn't place the widget back on the desktop; as hildon-home would crash again; until the current theme had been deleted. (It seemed the quickest thing to try, as I don't know where any config file is) I then recreated the offening theme folder and it works fine with that theme?
So my belief is that something in your settings goes wrong.
Hope this helps
