So I first noticed this with Panucci and thought the problem was it. But then I installed KMplayer and it was the same.

It seems only the built in media player is NOT muted when in silent mode.

Is this an API limitation that we need Nokia to address or is it something the programmers are missing??

I wanted to ask before I filed a bug against any particular media player.

The issue for my concern is when I listen to audio through headphones using anything but the builtin media player, ringtones and alerts emit through the speakers and out to everyone around me.

But I can't put it on silent cause then I can't hear my audio...

I use the built in player, and it's near perfect for what I want: I can play meditational music for someone I'm working with whithout being interrupted by texts or calls which are silent. It may not be the most intuitive way for others, but it's the most useful I've ever come across.

Yes it's a decent player. Inability to play folders is a major draw back.

Also, it sucks at playing podcasts compared to Panucci (bookmarking, remembering where to left off etc) hence why this issue is an issue for me and others.

Anyway, this is not solving the issue, just taking the thread off topic.

A work around that I think is working here is to put it in General, then go into Settings - Profiles and drop the volume on sms and ringtone for General Profile.

Then you have to remember to up them again once done.
