That's the GPS icon. It stops blinking when it finds your location.
You can also close the app that is requiring location and it'll disappear

Thanks !!!!!!! Helped a lot 
I have had my Nokia N9 a month ago so I am new to it, but since I upgraded to PR 1.2 I have been seeing this icon which is next to the availability icon and it lights up white then grey, can anyone tell me what it is exactly and how do I turn it off? It's just bugging me :/
