Maemo developers should keep an eye on the maemo.org announcements feed but let's just paste here this interesting piece of news.

The Maemo Eclipse Integration 2nd Edition project has released new out-of-the-box ready Maemo SDK Virtual Image based on Ubuntu Intrepid Desktop and supporting VMWare, VirtualBox and QEmu.

MAEMO SDK VIRTUAL IMAGE DETAILS

- Image version: Maemo Diablo 4.1 SDK Virtual Image - Beta 1

(...)

This image does not host Maemo Fremantle SDK Development Environment by default but Fremantle SDK can be installed to the image either manually or with Maemo SDK installation wizard provided by Maemo ESBox environment.

This is very promising.

I have a question: how many SDKs and libraries are common in Maemo and Ubuntu and how compatible can be a Maemo application and an Ubuntu application both run on the same hardware? Do they need much work of porting and recompilation?
