I looked but I'm a little over-whelmed by the choices to make a call. We have Skype, Grand Central (only for the US for now so that doesn't help me since I'm from Canada), Gizmo, Ekiga? and now Fring. Is there one 'best' way to do this with a minimum (or even better - no) dollars out. I'm sure there are many other SIP choices I haven't mentioned. I would even be better if it was available more or less everywhere...

Can some one help an old man please

you forgot about the SIP client thats built in. Honestly I prefer a combo of gizmo and Grand Central. Gizmo is darned cheap and their services are a bit more stable than skype.
