I've had the N900 since December, but have only now put my Telstra NextG [Australian] sim in it (since I assumed it would not be compatible, and I had an N95-3 which was). While travelling last week, I used the N900 as a phone since it used the local frequencies. Now that I'm back, I've left the sim in and, to my astonishment, the signal level indicator at the bottom is reporting that it's using 3G. I then established a data connection, and it started reporting 3.5G.

I thought that wasn't possible as Telstra operate on the 850MHz band ... does that mean the N900 works with Telstra NextG ?

I haven't tested the data rates, so maybe it's just reporting incorrectly ...

Does anybody have an explanation for this, or have others seen this as well ?
