Sorry to burst the bubble. It not an Android... It is most likely for the so called "Krakatoa" Linux-based smartphone platform. And it is neither Meego nor Meltemi.

Is this (another) "Plan B"?

Its interesting that Krakatoa is an Indonesian volcano; all previous iterations of Linux-based platforms seem to be European mythological winds... Hopefully someone has more info on it...

Just because it's Linux everyone in the comments section is assuming they are doing something with Android. . .

Yup i initially thought it has something to do with providing support for existing devices or maybe a Maps-related appointment; what intrigues is the post by Ex-Insider... It may have some truth or may be just FUD to troll around...

Maybe it's Linux middleware on servers as previously speculated... no scrap that, it's mentioning embedded and drivers in the same context... can be everything. Or it's just a Lubeman trap First a "Burning platform", now an erupting(erupted) volcano...

Mhhh... eruption... disruption...? Krakatau is just dormant and will erupt again, one day.

I know there was a thread about open positions, ok. But this still doesn't explain that particular comment.

Nokia is about 'disruptions' if they increase WP8's market share to the extent that the market is split where iOS, Android and WP8 each have roughly 25-40% of the smartphone market, then there would be the potential for Nokia to interject with their own market 'disruption'.

From a quick google search, we find that Krakatoa is a 3D rendering engine and using frost for particle physics.

Now searching with nokia+krakatoa, we can find a number of team members who are/have been working for projects with Nokia who have listed the use of this engine as a part of their skillset...

Mark Timms

Matthias Muller

Kevin Meinert Product Development Manager at NOKIA

Now kevin has a very interesting role, he appears to be a team lead of one of Nokias Mapping team (Here).

So far, this is the only link i can find to "Krakatoa" with nokia and that would take us back to our assumption of the original Role offer being related to nokias mapping service.

Edit: additional info...

I have just rememberd reading an older article about how Nokia are now also using their True Cars for their Living Maps fitted with LiDar sensors, which basically "uses 64 lasers to capture 1.3 million points of digital information every second of each vehicle's journey".

I would happily place a bet on nokia using Krakatoa to generate their maps from the data captured by these cars.

And Krakatao blew up. One of the biggest explosions of vulcano in recent history.
