You can install the plugin and try to configure it, on my device it finds enormously large list of audio devices (but most of them don't have names) and two video devices (front and rear camera), but I don't know how can I test it further - there's only audio test implemented afaik... Is making videocall the only option to test if this works?

im wandering also what is the correct config in Tools-> Voice/Video Settings-> input and output settings.

audio:
Output: Plugin: pulseaudio device:default ?

Input: Plugin: pulseaudio device:default ?

video:

Output: Plugin: X Window system device:default ?

Input: Plugin:Video4Linux2 device: omap3/vs6555 ??

"microphone test" works!

Audio - you should leave it as is (and you checked it yourself - it works )
Video - Output: no idea; Input: omap3 is rear camera (the 5mpix one), vs6555 is front camera (ST Microelectronics VS6555 with VGA resolution to be more specific), so you probably want to use vs6555.

tried many different configs with N900 but no luck

the videocall window appear, the red led of the front camera is on for a second and then it close and appear a message in the conversation window:

error with your webcam
conference error
the call has been terminated

the audio call also stays on calling, u can adjust volume, but no sounds and usually crash when the other answer the call

no usefull messages from terminal
just "floating point exception" when it crash

Just to know , i tried also Pidgin on Ubuntu, and audio/video call work if the other person is connected via Gmail website. (i made a Gtalk test) Also Empathy is working with videocall on gtalk.

With the default IM client on N900 (telepathy) videocall start fine if you are the caller, they can see you but you cannot see them (sometime is green screen). if you receive the videocall, when you answer you dont see their video, and the caller never know that you answered.

all this tests are made from N900 to PC with Gtalk from website

i dont know from N900 to other phone, for example Android with Gtalk

but from pidgin or empathy on ubuntu is not possible to videocall people with gtalk in Android...

I thought ports were suppose to have "maemo" in the package name.
I have installed it but not played with it much, seems to work on a quick check.

Yep, that was me. Nothing out of ordinary, just a bunch of security fixes, should work at least as good as 2.10.6.

I guess you're right. I thought about changing it when uploading 2.10.7, but I'm so busy lately that I couldn't even find the time to contemplate it.
