I have the same problem, as do RST38h. I have 69Mb, and I don't think it's the space. Some mod I've done or some program that messes with it. anyway I'm trying this instead:

WARNING don't do this unless you know things about penguins.
apt-get install mp-fremantle-generic-pr

You have to move the apt cache before that, since the debs take more than the space on rootfs. I have moved it to Mydocs/.apt-archive-cache and symlinked from /var/cache

It's currently downloading... slowly.

I got the same message (twice). I chose "rename" but I couldn't really tell if that was the right thing to do.

Is there going to be any performance downgrade if I choose to update OTA over PC Suite?

I dont want to flash my device unless it is necessary.

Those who get the message that you should use PC, it means that you have conflicting packages and application manager is trying to be nice and not force-remove them.

This can be caused by an exact dependency from an installed package to one of the system packages. It seems like qt4-phonon, qt4-webkit are good candidates for causing this. If you have e.g. midori installed, that would be a good candidate for removal before proceeding with SSU.

You should probably remove potential blockers (anything from devel is a good candidate) and try again. You can also use apt-get which may or may not work (and you need to reboot at the end yourself).

Before resorting to apt, you need to move apt caches to some larger medium than rootfs. You can do this with:
mv /var/cache/apt /home/user/.apt-cache
ln -s /home/user/.apt-cache /var/cache/apt

Thanks for Nokia/the Maemo team for the proper changelog. This is how it should be always done. (With Symbian there was very little hope of seeing something similar.)

You should also use command df to see how much free space you have on device before resorting to apt-get. Using apt-get will need more than that 45 megs of space. Probably 50 megs is enough though, but I'm not sure. If you run out of space, do not reboot, but free first more space and then continue with apt-get
Is there a quick way to list (maybe with apt-get) those conflicting packages?
