Just use xmodmap to map the layout the the EN-US one. Or go get a spare keymat.

in the source code of our projects if you write some letters with accent, they behave differently on different text editor.
I wouldn't use non-ASCII characters in source code. But only there. Beside that,

HTML (and browser) give the same problem sometimes, because many sites uses ISO-something instead of UTF8
ISO-8859 is not a problem. The problem is often in webservers configured to output the Content-Type header (wrongly).
Most browsers (including Explorer) do behave correctly.

for example this site rely on ISO-8859-1 charset, that is a subset of the UTF8).
ISO-8859s are subsets of Unicode, while UTF-8 is an encoding used to represent the whole Unicode space.

However, I supposed you already know that AltGr+' = `, don't you?

People here don't know they can escape from ssh because ~ is not on the keyboard
