Thank you for your answer, Maacruz. Installing everything id3lib was the first thing I did, in fact I installed:
id3search
hildon-thumbnail-libid3
libid3-3.8.3
libid3tag0
lightmediascanner-plugin-id3
python2.5-id3
python2.5-id3lib
Doesn't seem enough :/
It's strange no-one has been interested yet in turning the N800 into a media renderer!

After some googling and looking into the repos I only have managed to find one old id3lib gstreamer plugin in maemo 3.2

I have installed the following packages in my N800, Diablo firmware (all packages from here):
