hi people

with my E72 and E73 i do quite often get low GPS signal which means it rarely detects exactly where i am.

With the E72 there is an option called 'Satellite status' which shows me loads of grey bars which turn blue after about 5 seconds.

that seems to boost the signal!

Now with my N900 i dont have that option and quite often find myself waiting for up to 3 hours for it to 'look for GPS'
It downloads the data ok but actually 'looking for GPS' can take aaaages!

I have on there standard OVI maps and sygic mobile maps.

I vagually remember there being a piece of software which boosts the GPS signal or maybe even my 3G signal in order to achieve voice guidance quicker for the GPS software.

It's the same result whether or not i use my SIM card or the phone offline, get the exact same result.

sometimes it will find the signal but quite rarely.

Any ideas?

Cheers.

Hi there

Yes, supl.nokia.com is the server and thats for the OVI software and i also use Sygic software.

aGPS is assisted GPS right?

The only option i get on the phone is 'Internal GPS' and thats in the location settings.

Am i looking in the wrong place?

You are looking at right place. Enable network positioning and change server to: supl.google.com

To see GPS status, install GPSData.

QFA - been noted in many threads about GPS lately.

A-GPS will not help if you use with no SIM unless you have a wlan connection.

You will get a quicker connection if you are close to the GPS's last known location. See Link

I don't think supl.nokia.com works at all, so use supl.google.com.

For some reasons, A-GPS never work for me with WLAN connection. Neither supl.google.com, or supl.nokia.com. With mobile connection, supl.google.com works flawlessly.
